Mindful Painting & Reiki Workshop
Small group, maximum 6 people · 3 hours
Life moves quickly. This workshop is an invitation to slow down, take a breath, and let your hands do some of the thinking for a while.
Through a short meditation, mindful painting by numbers, a mindful snack break and a taster of hands-on Reiki, we'll explore what it feels like to be fully present with something simple: colour, breath, taste, touch. You don't need any experience with mindfulness, painting or Reiki to join. All you need is a willingness to show up.
Mindfulness-based approaches are shown across numerous clinical trials to reduce anxiety, depression and stress, while painting and creative art-making have their own strong track record of supporting mental wellbeing. Bringing the two together offers a gentle, accessible way to experience both.
What to expect
Guided meditation: a short, accessible practice to settle in and arrive
Mindful painting by numbers: no skill required, just presence. We paint slowly, noticing colour, movement and focus as they arise
Mindful snack break: a 10-minute pause to rest and refuel, beginning with a few moments of gentle attention to taste and texture. Please bring a small snack you'd enjoy
Reiki taster: a 10-minute hands-on session for each person, offered as a relaxation experience in the Usui Reiki Ryoho tradition
Enquiry: simple, thoughtful prompts to reflect on what you noticed, together as a group
How the session flows
Hour 1: Guided meditation and mindful painting by numbers
Hour 2: Mindful snack break, continued painting, and Reiki tasters for the first 3 people
Hour 3: Reiki tasters for the final 3 people, continued painting, and a short group reflection
A taster of Reiki
To deepen the sense of pause, each person will receive a 10-minute taster of hands-on Reiki. Reiki is a gentle Japanese practice, often described as a form of hands-on relaxation. You'll sit comfortably, fully clothed, while the practitioner rests their hands lightly on or just above the body. There's no pressure or manipulation, and nothing you need to do except settle in.
While each person has their turn, the rest of the group continues painting quietly, so there's no waiting around. On the day, you'll be invited to write your name down for the second or third hour, then return to your painting at a softer, slower pace.
Reiki is taught here in the Usui Reiki Ryoho lineage and is offered as a relaxation experience, not a substitute for medical care. If you'd prefer a no-touch session, or not to receive Reiki at all, that's absolutely fine. Just let us know on the day.
Who is this for?
Anyone who is curious about mindfulness or Reiki, looking for a moment of genuine pause, or simply wanting to create something in good company. You don't need to be "good at art" — this isn't about the finished painting. You are very welcome here, exactly as you are.
How to book
Simply click on the 'Book' button. This will redirect you to www.tickettailor.com and will ask you to confirm that you have read and comply with the below safety information before completing your booking.
Safety Information
Mindfulness is a helpful and scientifically evidenced way of supporting wellbeing and is a safe practice for most people, including those with mental health issues, with certain exceptions, as long as some simple cautions are observed.
Participants are required to take responsibility for themselves at all times. Those who have received or are currently receiving help from a member of a mental health team for a serious condition, or addiction, should note that mindfulness sessions are not a therapeutic treatment.
We do not wish to preclude anyone from learning / participating in mindfulness but, if you have, or have had any mental health condition, for your safety, you must seek advice from us and if required consult your mental health provider or your GP before taking part.
Similarly, please seek medical advice before taking part if you have a serious health condition such as: heart problems, diabetes or cancer, if you are pregnant or if you have epilepsy or a breathing difficulty, which is not medically controlled.
It is also important to note that those who have recently experienced or who are currently going through a serious traumatic experience including catastrophic illness themselves or of a close family member, separation or bereavement, redundancy, and other events, should please seek advice from us. Mindfulness practice may result in some introspection and release of emotion which can be distressing. Whether to take part in mindfulness practice / learning may also depend upon what kind of support network you have, professional and non-professional, (family and close friends etc).
Reiki taster
Reiki is offered as a relaxation experience and is not a medical treatment or a substitute for medical care. Taking part is entirely optional, and a no-touch option is available. If you have an injury, a skin condition, a sensitivity to touch, or are pregnant, please let us know before the session so we can adapt the experience for you. You can pause or stop at any time.
Food and materials
Please bring your own snack for the mindful snack break and eat only your own food. Let us know about any allergies or dietary requirements when you book.
We paint with water-based acrylic paints. Please let us know about any skin sensitivities or allergies. Acrylic paint can stain clothing permanently once dry, so wear something you don't mind getting a little paint on. We'll pause to wash our hands before the mindful snack break.
If you are currently experiencing a very low emotional state and are self-harming or have serious suicidal thoughts, then you must seek emergency help as well as informing your GP or mental health provider and any supportive close family members.
